A family saga…
Félix was born in Pamplona in 1975. After having studied Film directing in the William Paterson University in New Jersey, he directed the short film 'Dreamers' which obtained several awards among them the Honorary Mention of the Jury in the Berlin International Film Festival (1999), Winner of the Hunter College Film Festival of New York (1998), First Prize at Best Short Film, and Best Screenplay at the Alcine Film Festival (1999). With his short film 'Canciones de invierno' (2004), he obtained too several awards at national and international festivals. The short films 'Los que sueñan despiertos' and 'El Albúm Blanco' were awarded in various festivals such as Málaga and Alcalá de Henares, among others. With 'Bajo las estrellas', his first feature film, Viscarret also obtained the unanimous applause of critics and audiences, receiving two Goya Awards of the Spanish Academy, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Viscarret, from a total of seven nominations. The film was also the winner at the Malaga Film Festival, and invited to the most important international film festivals.
In 2018, Felix Viscarret’s film 'Saura(s)', an unconventional film portrait of the legendary film director Carlos Saura and his family, is nominated for Best Documentary at the Spanish Academy Awards and selected to premiere at renowned international film festivals such as San Sebastian, Guadalajara and Miami.
His previous works as a screenwriter and director include the feature film 'Vientos de la Habana' (2016), the first adaptation to the screen of the emblematic novels by Leonardo Padura (Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, 2015), which premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, and also its follow-up, the TV series 'Cuatro estaciones en La Habana' (2017), an international co-production aired on Netflix in the United States, Latin America and Europe, and which received the Platino Ibero-American Film Award for Best Fiction Series.
In addition to film and TV, Felix Viscarret has been a Master Class Lecturer in Film Direction at several universities in Europe and the U.S.
