After various comings and goings, the baton of direction is picked up by Pedro Medina and the festival, with a renewed team in which fundamental figures such as Anabel Hidalgo will join other historic members of the team such as Pepe Martín and Ramón Garrido, advances towards the moment of splendor that the decade of the nineties will bring. Relations with industry, critics and institutions are strengthened and special attention is paid to disciplines such as animation. The generation that will mark the imminent renewal of Spanish cinema and its reconciliation with the younger audience begins to appear in the jury and winners' lists. The arrival of Pablo Berger, Icíar Bollaín, Juanma Bajo Ulloa and Álex de la Iglesia will coincide with the twentieth anniversary of a festival in top form.
