What would you do or what would you like to see if we were to make a film about Roma culture or the Roma people?
Carmen Ayala Marín is a Fine Arts graduate of the University of Seville and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She explores art history to craft new narratives through painting, writing, and film. She is the author of the book La Perra Andalouse (2023) and was an artist-in-residence at the Casa de Velázquez, Académie de France in Madrid (2021–22). She co-directed the short film El Ensayo, with the filmmaker Alberto Martín Menacho, premiered at Visions du Réel in 2025. Her work has been exhibited internationally in numerous galleries, museums, and art institutions. She is a founding member of the Dolores films collective, established in Geneva in 2025.
Alberto Martín Menacho was born in 1986 in Madrid, Spain. He graduated in Visual Arts from Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève). His short film Mi amado, las montañas (2017), was shown at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Alberto was an artist-in-residence at the Casa de Velázquez (2021-2022), French Academy in Madrid. His first feature film, Antier noche (2023), premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Together with artist Carmen Ayala Marín, he co-directed El ensayo (2025), premiered at Visions du Réel. His work has been exhibited in art centers, museums, and film festivals. He is a co-founder of the collective Dolores films, established in Geneva in 2025.
