Dare to write, shoot and edit a short film in just 72 hours? Registration is now open for the most fast-paced and fun section of ALCINE 55, the Alcalá de Henares / Community of Madrid Film Festival: Alcalá Film Jam, organised each year by Alcalá Film Office, part of Alcalá de Henares City Council’s Department of Tourism. Participants will have from 6 to 9 November to create their films. The only requirements are to follow a brief revealed at the last minute, keep the running time to no more than five minutes, use no AI and set their films in Alcalá de Henares.
Using a camera or a mobile phone, participants will compete for a jury award and an audience award, each worth €300. The organisers will select up to six finalist shorts in each of the two categories: Horizontal and Vertical. The Alcalá Film Jam jury will comprise Madrid para llevar, the history-focused Instagram project run by Sara Velázquez and Daniel Utrilla; creative technology specialist and filmmaker Roberto Romero; and production coordinator María G. Periñán.
Alcalá de Henares is home to ALCINE, the region’s longest-running film festival, organised by the Department of Culture of Alcalá de Henares City Council and the Community of Madrid. It also serves as a filming location for dozens of films and series year after year, including Daryl Dixon, La habitación de al lado, Berlín 2, En los márgenes, Cerrar los ojos and Anatomía de un instante. Alcalá Film Office, which promotes and facilitates these shoots, is inviting storytellers to its 72-hour short filmmaking marathon for the fourth year, welcoming both those who prefer traditional formats and those who enjoy creating content for social media.
To take part, read the rules and register using the form on the ALCINE 55 website before 6.00 pm on Thursday 5 November. The finalist films will be screened at the Teatro Salón Cervantes on Thursday 12 November at 5.00 pm. The awards ceremony will take place that same evening at the Noche Divergente party at Santissimo, alongside the Off ALCINE section, from 8.00 pm. Admission to both events is free.
