[From 7th to 30th of NOVEMBER of 2025. Capilla del Oidor]

Álex de la Iglesia: 35 Years Laughing in the Face of Darkness

From Mirindas asesinas to Pokeepsie Films. From his first short film to the creation of one of the most emblematic production companies in today’s cinematic landscape. From Call of Cthulhu game nights with friends to a massive live-action role-playing series with an international cast for HBO… The career of filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia is undoubtedly one of the most unique, personal, and explosive in Spanish cinema.

On the occasion of the Piedra Angular Award at ALCINE 54, this exhibition takes as its starting point his participation in the 20th Alcalá de Henares Film Festival in 1990 with his 16mm short film Mirindas asesinas — 35 years ago — to trace his career through various materials from his films, as well as original designs by the author. The exhibition includes two special sections:

Points of Sanity: Role-playing, Comics, and the Cinema of Álex de la Iglesia, an exhibition originally produced for Cómic BCN in 2023, delving into the director’s most playful and comic-inspired side, with several materials recovered here.

Secondly, a look at the decade since the founding of Pokeepsie Films, alongside Carolina Bang — a production company that has managed to merge Álex de la Iglesia’s thematically and aesthetically distinctive style with the discovery of new talent and the engagement of younger and family audiences, through productions that stand on equal ground between theaters and streaming platforms.
