Savvas Stavrou

Savvas Stavrou, born in Cyprus in 1988, has been making films since the age of 12. After several photography and video art installations, he concentrated on learning the craft of filmmaking by participating in various other departments on different productions. His short film 'Song to the Siren' was the first musical to be produced and filmed in Cyprus. The style employed originates from his pre-dominantly visual background, leading his work to have a very strong thematic bond between its imagery and music, thus facilitating the often ethereal subject matter. He has worked as part of the Development and Production team at Focus Features on films such as 'Hanna', 'One Day' and 'Jane Eyre', as well as the assistant to acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom and producer Andrew Eaton on productions such as 'Face of an Angel' and 'Rush'. More recently, he coordinated production of the Russell Brand feature 'The Emperor's New Clothes' for StudioCanal. Savvas won the Best Short Film Award at the Sci-Fi London Festival's 48 Hour Film Challenge with his film 'Interlude', and, following his second narrative short 'Dorothea', he is now preparing his next short as well as developing his first feature.
