'+10K', by Gala Hernández, and 'Dieu est timide', by Jocelyn Charles, are the winners of ALCINE 54

The festival's awards have been announced, and the winners will be announced this weekend in Alcalá de Henares. ALCINE will present its Diamond Awards tonight at its Closing Gala.

+10K, by Gala Hernández, in the National Short Film Competition, and Dieu est timide, by Jocelyn Charles, in the European Competition, these are the films that won the first diamonds of the 54th edition of ALCINE, the Alcalá de Henares / Community of Madrid Film Festival, and have already secured their pre-selection for the Oscar® (and the Goya Awards, in the case of the winner of the National Competition). Pedro Toro, the festival's artistic director, announced the ALCINE 54 awards this morning at the Antiguo Hospital de Santa María la Rica, with some of the winners in attendance, who will collect their awards at the festival's Closing Gala tonight.

Gala Hernández (La Mecánica de los Fluidos), portrayed in the Cannes-acclaimed short film +10K Pol Gascó, 21, and other young people of his generation who dream of getting rich quick through cryptocurrencies. According to the jury, the work “portrays with tenderness and honesty a generation living in precarious circumstances, full of uncertainty and unattainable dreams.” Two other women joined her in the National Short Film Competition's awards: Elena López Riera, director of the feature film El agua, with Las novias del sur, winner of the Second Diamond Award, and Rocío Quillahuaman with Puriykachay, winner of the festival's Third Diamond Award. Also at the National Competition, the Audience Award went to El príncep, by Alex Sardá.

Meanwhile, Dieu est timide, the European Competition winner by Jocelyn Charles, which also won the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival, tells the story of a train journey that turns into a terrifying experience through its vibrant and dreamlike illustrations. Two other French shorts, Feu fantôme, by Morgane Ambre, and Montsouris, by Guil Sela, were chosen as winners of the Second and Third Diamond awards, with a special mention for Eraserhead in a knitted shopping bag, by Lili Koss; and Porque hoje e sábado by Alice Eça Guimarães won the Audience Award.

Also participating in the press conference were Ana Barja, winner of the Best Female Performance Award for her work in Casi septiembre, by Lucía G. Romero; Morgane Ambre, director of Feu fantôme, Second Diamond of the European Competition; and Fêt-Nat Bailly and Amanda Orzechowska, director and producer of When the tide comes, winner of the Children's Jury Prize.

The ALCINE 54 Closing Gala (tonight, 8:00 p.m., Teatro Salón Cervantes) will present around thirty awards. It will be hosted by actress and presenter Ana del Arco, who will be joined by actor, improviser, and clown Rubén Hernández, a regular in Yllana productions, and sound artist Javi Álvarez.

This year, the festival's children's jury is going independent to put on its own ALCINE Kids Gala (today, Friday, 5:00 p.m., Teatro Salón Cervantes), a gala worthy of its audience. The children of Colectivo CAJE will present the award for best short film at ALCINE Kids, When the Tide Comes, by Fêt-Nat Bailly, accompanied by a musical and visual performance by Buque Bólido.

The award-winning films, for all audiencies

For those who haven't yet had the chance to enjoy the winning short films from ALCINE 54, this weekend offers several opportunities in different formats. First, a small selection will be available to watch after tonight's Closing Gala. Then, on Sunday, you can attend the two screenings of the award-winning films, at 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., also at the Teatro Salón Cervantes.

The festival's award-winning films can also be viewed this Saturday in two very different sessions. One of them is ALBIBE, ALCINE's Breastfeeding Session, where families with infants can watch the official awards (for adult audiences) in a space adapted to their needs. There will be two screenings at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Santa María la Rica, which will have changing tables, an accessible area with space to leave strollers, and lighting and sound adapted for babies.

Also on Saturday, at 12:30 pm, at the Teatro Salón Cervantes, ALCINE repeats its Vermouth Session inaugurated last year: another very different way to enjoy the awards list to which Vermut Forzudo invites us.
