The Brutalist, Romería, Flow and A Complete Unknown, as well as David Lynch's classic Mulholland Drive, can be seen from December 3 to 7 in Alcalá de Henares
Some of the year's most outstanding international films and one of David Lynch's cult classics will be screened this week at the ALCINE Feature Film Showcase, the Alcalá de Henares Film Festival / Community of Madrid. The Brutalist, by Brady Corbet; Romería, by Carla Simón; Flow, by Gints Zilbalodis; and A Complete Unknown, by James Mangold, are the films programmed from December 3 to 7 at the Teatro Salón Cervantes in Alcalá de Henares.
This year's showcase also includes Mulholland Drive, by David Lynch. "Since we've been making subtle nods to David Lynch at ALCINE 54, we're closing with Mulholland Drive, one of his most iconic classics, because it's always a good time to discover or rediscover a work by this absolute genius of cinema," says Pedro Toro, artistic director of ALCINE.
The Feature Film Showcase brings together “the highlights of the year’s crop,” including “some films that, although they may already be available on streaming platforms, are designed to be seen in a movie theater,” says Toro. One such film is Flow, the year’s most outstanding animated feature, an Oscar winner and a true European phenomenon. “It’s a purely visual film for all audiences: children will be thrilled by the wordless adventures of the cat protagonist in a world without humans, while adults will find environmental and even biblical interpretations.”
Another of the year’s titles worthy of the big screen, which will also be shown at the Feature Film Showcase, and which will have only one screening, is The Brutalist. “This mammoth work, over three hours long with an intermission, is a classic American novel about the creation of a work greater than man, featuring outstanding performances by Guy Pearce and Adrien Brody and incredible locations originally shot on 70mm,” explains the artistic director of ALCINE.
Along with the aforementioned films, the Feature Film Showcase also includes “Carla Simón’s latest film, Romería, which has been one of the most anticipated Spanish releases of the year after the successes of Verano 1993 and Alcarràs,” says Pedro Toro. And A Completely Unknown, “the Bob Dylan biopic, which tells the story of how he went electric at a folk festival that is now part of international popular music history, and which we have programmed as a nod to those residents of Alcalá who enjoyed that legendary Dylan concert at the Huerta del Obispo 20 years ago.”
Tickets for the eight screenings of the Feature Film Showcase are now on sale online and can also be purchased at the Teatro Salón Cervantes box office.
