Water carriers, churreros, sharpeners... Itinerant trades that are almost extinct but revered (some even have a plaza and fountain in Alcalá de Henares) that still resonate in our collective memory. That's what the viewers of ALCINE DE VERANO experienced last July 16 when the sharpener's recognizable pan flute sneaked by surprise onto the Huerta del Obispo screen before the screening of Matria, Álvaro Gago's debut film that won the Open Screen award in the latest edition of ALCINE.
The day before, the calls for the national and European competitions had closed, which have once again exceeded a thousand registrations. There are, respectively, 682 and 730 films of up to 40 minutes that the ALCINE team now has to review before the selection committee, made up of renowned voices from critics and national film programming along with cultural groups from the city, begin to evaluate during long summer days. During the month of September, the short films that will be part of a 53rd edition will be announced that will invite the viewer to sharpen their gaze.
Also at the turn of summer, with the return of ALCINE Club, the first clues of our festival of precious pieces and rough diamonds will begin to be revealed, including this year's long-awaited visual universe, once again the work of the prestigious Equipo SOPA (La Mesías).
ALCINE 53 will take place from November 7 to 17, 2024.
