Simon Maria Kubiena was born in Vienna in 1998 and was introduced to filmmaking through acting, both at the Burgtheater in Vienna and in Austrian film productions. He participated in several film and acting workshops, including one at the Prague Film School. Since 2019, he has been studying directing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
The director grew up in Berlin where she studied philosophy and film studies. She gained her first experiences in filmmaking working as an assistant director and casting coordinator for various film productions as well as directing her own shorts. Since 2019, she has studied at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. In 2021, she was selected for the scholarship exchange semester at La Fémis film school in Paris. Her latest short, CATCHING BIRDS (2023) had its world premiere at Berlinale.
