Short films designed for the little ones, workshops, concerts and a breast session for mothers, fathers and babies. Children's audiences can also make their plans for the 53rd edition of ALCINE, the Alcalá de Henares / Community of Madrid Film Festival, which is held between November 7 and 17 and in which boys and girls will once again have this year a front row seat.
Because, who said that film festivals aren't also for kids? The ALCINE53 programming has a specific section for children every year, The Best of ALCINE Kids. But also other activities with which to learn and have fun.
Who wouldn't want to have a Turbo Gadget capable of transforming things? This workshop, aimed at families with boys and girls from 6 to 12 years old, is inspired by the genius of Charley Bowers, a pioneer of animation and stop-motion cinema, known for his absurd and imaginative inventions, to create together the Turbocacharro , an object transforming machine.
This incredible artifact has the power to turn anything into something completely new. Under the supervision of two specialists in animation and extraordinary machines, families will have access to this coveted and dangerous invention.
Each family will be able to choose from a variety of elements, from geometric figures to everyday objects, which they will then put in the Turbocacharro to transform them into something surprising. After the transformation process, they can decide if they want to keep, destroy or modify the new resulting object.
Using the cut-out animation technique and the Stop Motion Studio app, you can bring your creations to life. The stop-motion boxes will allow each family to animate the transformation process of the chosen objects, giving free rein to the imagination. Animating like Charley Bowers can be very cool. In addition, their creations will be part of the curtain of the Best of ALCINE Kids section, which can be seen at the Teatro-Salón Cervantes during the following week.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, November 9, at the Casita del O'Donnell (Parque O'Donnell, Alcalá de Henares), in morning and afternoon sessions: from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. To attend it is necessary to register in the online form (free registration until capacity is reached).
In this edition of ALCINE, six animated shorts from Spain, France, Lithuania and Germany will appear on the Best of ALCINE Kids screen to make us reflect and also laugh; including the winner of the section, chosen by the festival's children's jury. In addition, they will be preceded by the animated curtain for the section created in the Chachi Bowers Workshop.
The Best of ALCINE Kids can be seen in two sessions on the last weekend of the festival: Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17, at 5:00 p.m., at the Teatro Salón Cervantes in Alcalá de Henares. Tickets will be available starting Wednesday, October 30 on the Culturalcalá website.
If film festivals are also for children, this year ALCINE has proposed that mothers and fathers of babies can also attend the festival, with the little ones, at ALBIBE, a 'Teta Session' designed especially for them.
This is a new way of seeing the festival's achievements, adapted so that mothers and fathers can reconcile their own leisure with parenting. They will be able to go with their babies to the room, conveniently adapted in light and sound so that it is compatible with breastfeeding and the needs of their little pre-spectators: morning hours, accessible room, space to leave cars, changing tables... And also with an entrance free.
The ALBIBE program will be made up of the films from the winner's list, aimed at adult audiences. This 'Teta Session' will be on Saturday, November 16, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at the Gilitos Sociocultural Center / LabCrea (Calle Padre Llanos, 2, Alcalá de Henares).
As part of the tribute to Charley Bowers, the unknown pioneer of silent cinema and animation, AL CINE 53 organizes a concert for the whole family in which The Silent Entertainers Band, a group specialized in playing classics for cultural entities such as the Spanish Film Archive or the Reina Sofía Museum, will provide a soundtrack and live narration to several of their short films in carefully restored editions.
The concert will be on Sunday, November 17, at 12:30 p.m., at the Teatro Salón Cervantes in Alcalá de Henares. Tickets will be available starting Wednesday, October 30 on the Culturalcalá website.
