Andrew Neiman is an ambitious young jazz drummer absolutely focused on reaching the top within the music conservatory elitist East Coast where he receives his training. Marked by the failure of the literary career of his father, Andrew harbors dreams of greatness; he longs to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher, a well known for his talent as much as its terrifying teaching methods instructor, leads the best jazz ensemble of the Conservatory. Andrew Fletcher discovers and aspiring drummer is selected to be part of the musical group coached, forever changing the live of Andrew. Andrew’s passion for perfection quickly becomes obsession, while pushing his ruthless teacher continues until the threshold of their skills and even their mental health.

Damien Chazelle
Chazelle was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on January 19, 1985. He is the son of Celia Martin, a writer and professor, and French-born computer scientist at Princeton University Bernard Chazelle. Filmmaking was his earliest ambition, but he subsequently wanted to be a musician, and struggled to make it as a jazz drummer in high school at Princeton High School. However, Chazelle stated that he knew instinctively he never had the talent to be a great musician, and after high school, pursued filmmaking again, describing it as his first love. He attended Harvard University where he concentrated in Visual and Environmental Studies. Chazelle studied filmmaking as an undergraduate at Harvard, graduating in 2007. 'Whiplash' is his first film, starring Miles Teller and JK Simons. He was nominated as a director of many international awards, like the Oscars, and he got a lot of recognition from critics and audiences for his debut.
