FOCOCORTOS

Friday the 11th of November. 23:00
El Sueño de Lola (Pza. Santos Niños, s/n)
Free Entry

The Focoforo could be defined as a vortex of ideas in which some of the most daring offerings in Spanish pop culture in the twenty first century are finding a voice, but that’s not quite it.

Technically, the Focoforo is an Internet forum. It was created by the journalist specialized in cinema and video games John Tones, the film director Nacho Vigalondo and the designer Eunice Szpillman in 2009, as an extension of the Focoblog, a pioneering blog on the domestic digital scene.

Over time, and with more than 6,000 users right now, the Focoforo has become the meeting point for a series of multifarious personalities from the underground culture of the moment; blogosphere heirs to fanzines, Grapa militants, pop essayists, online lecturers, mechanical brutes, miscellaneous musicians, scriptwriters, literary people, short filmmakers, journalists, critics, musicians and the unemployed account for hundreds of posts concerning brainy cinema criticism, unbelievable hangovers, youtube terminals, post-modern superhero comics and hidden treasures in the world of porn; which have been expanded or received feedback from social networks such as Facebook or Twitter to create their own memes, groups, festivals, merchandising and even a nomination for the Notodo Awards for best Internet Phenomenon in 2010. All thanks to its cross between disparate personalities but with one very clear intention: to revolutionize pop culture from the terraces of the Internet.

By means of a varied videoplaylist covering anything from cult short films on VHS to Internet phenomena, the night will take a stroll around some of the philias and phobias marking the focoforo personality, all made a little more amenable with competitions, jokes, the presence of the bigwigs concerned, the directors of some of the short films and the live premiere of the new musical project of Wicked Wanda, the official group of the web.

A NIGHT IN THE CANÓDROMO

Saturday the 12th of November. 0:00h
El Sueño de Lola (Pza. Santos Niños, s/n)
Free Entry

Julián Génisson -samurai del ocio- and Lorena Ravich -snack corporativo- are a pair of veterans of the most alternative strand of stand up comedy in Madrid; what you never get to see on TV and doesn’t involve jokes about Espinete or girls going to the restroom together. Just over a year ago they decided to alternate their on-stage comedy with other communications media and created Canódromo Abandonado, first as a small space on the radio in La Tabacalera in Lavapiés and then, when they were joined by the United States composer Aaron Rux, as an audiovisual format for Internet, on their web and the Papanatos portal.

Their short pieces, grouped in series such as “Adultos deprimentes”, “Adultos lascivos” and “Bromitas macabras”, mash together the ultra-violent comedy of Miguel Noguera, already officially lauded on the Web, and the visual universe running from the Italian terror of the seventies to the nightly TV-store, while abashedly flirting with the imagination of authors such as Lynch and Tarkovski.

Alternating the screening of some of their best short films with their monologues and live music, “A night in the Canódromo…” is an invitation to crash into one of the most high-risk and disconcerting offerings in comedy today.

TRASH BETWEEN FRIENDS

Friday the 18th of November. 0:00h
Sala 1900. El Sueño de Lola (Pza. Santos Niños, s/n)
3€

In this day and age, in which the spread of home cinemas has brought high definition televisions and surround sound into the living room, and in which it is common to cram personal consumption into portable micro-screens, viewing has become a highly individual act. “Trash between Friends” aims to return the experience to the movie theatre.

To this end, trash films are sought out: unusual films, completely unfettered by formal considerations that enable audiences to celebrate and participate in the dialogue and commentary without prejudices.

Sessions alternate between belly laughs and criticism, comedy and a clinical eye. Adopting the spirit of meetings of film buffs and turning them into celebrations: audiences participate, laugh, scream... And become part of the performance.
It began in Barcelona in 2009, and has always been accompanied by its celebrated commentators Raúl Minchinela, Nacho Vigalondo, Rubén Lardín and El Sr. Ausente. “Trash between friends” has made itself unmissable for any lover of film and a good laugh.

The programming, always unique and unrepeatable, is especially important here because for the first time, and in the spirit of ALCINE, instead of the usual film, the friends of Trash have prepared a special session based on short pieces.
