Aldona Brings Music to ALCINE40’s ‘24 Polish Hours’

Aldona Brings Music to ALCINE40’s ‘24 Polish Hours’
Cinema and music are a well-established couple. Sounds and melodies are always reserved a special place in film productions. The Alcalá de Henares/ Madrid Region Film Festival is making the most of this fusion in its Alsonic section, which returns this year with Aldona Nowowiejska, a Polish-born singer living in France, who will play in the Corral de Comedias on Friday the 12th of November.

The concert will bring the ‘24 Polish Hours’ to a close with a cultural collage taking us on a journey to the heart of the cinematography of ALCINE40’s guest country. The festival will be screening a selection of the short films of some of the country’s most promising filmmakers, all possible heirs to renowned Polish directors such as Roman Polanski, Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Kieslowski. A debut work and the Aldona concert have joined hands in this initiative to bring Alcalá de Henares and Poland closer together on the 12th of November.

Nomadic sounds

Aldona’s music is dazzling and personal, a halfway house between rhythms and softly spoken whispers. She left Poland in 1996, when the social and political reconstruction of the country was in full swing after the fall of communism. It was a difficult time for artists struggling to get their projects off the ground. The first few years she spent in Paris were typically hazy; she was alone and disorientated in a foreign country. Without her family and in the heart of a huge city, Aldona had to take decisions by herself and find her own way in the world.

She doesn’t consider herself French, or totally Polish either, but rather a nomad who is constantly on the move. She could compose and sing in her adopted language, but prefers to stay in her mother tongue. Her goal is to make music based on sensations that can be understood without a need to pay attention to the words.

Aldona Nowowiejska will be on stage in the Corral de Comedias in Alcalá de Henares on Friday the 12th of November at 21:30. Entrance is free and open to all until the theatre’s capacity is reached.
