Benedicte Maria was born in Norway in 1965. She grew up in Paris, moved back to Norway in 1975. Since her childhood she has expressed a great interest in both the theatre and the moving pictures. After working as a still photographer for many years, she was educated in film at Oslo Film & TV Akademi (Norway) 1992–1994. She graduated from the Dramatiska Institutet in Stockholm in 1998. Her films have received both national and international awards.
