Chiron is a young African American with a difficult childhood and adolescence, growing up in a troubled Miami area. As the years pass, the young man discovers himself trying to survive in different situations. During all this time, Chiron will have to face the drug addiction of his mother and the violent atmosphere of his school and neighborhood.

Barrz Jenkins (1979) is an American film director and writer based in Los Angeles, known for his films 'Medicine for Melancholy' and 'Moonlight' , the latter of which received dozens of accolades, including the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, the latter of which Jenkins shared with co-writer Tarell Alvin McCraney.
